Responsibilities  

Reporting to Night Camp Coordinators and in cooperation with Day Camp Coordinators and Counsellors and the New College Residence Front Desk, Night Counsellors will be responsible for: 

-Supervision of Youth and Pre-U students overnight through reinforcement of camp curfews, program code of conduct, and residence rules 

-Responding to program incidents, including student conduct, students in distress, students in crisis, and/or safety and security incidents, including escalation and report as necessary 

-Other duties as assigned based on International Program needs (night attendance) 

 

Contract Duration  

There are two different sets of contracts available: 

-Contract Type 1: S1 to S3  

-Contract Type 2: S2 and S3  

 

Additional Job Information & Important Dates   

-Selected candidates must attend a mandatory interview, anticipated sometime in early March 

-Training Week: anticipated to be 2-3 days, June 8 to June 12, 2026 

-Program Dates: 

S1: June 14, 2026 – July 4, 2026  

S2: July 5, 2026 – July 25, 2026 

S3: July 26, 2026 – August 15, 2026 

-Working hours range between 10:30pm to 4:00am, up to 5 days a week (subject to change based on operational needs) 

-Compensation: $19.00/hour 

-Hours per week: variable (~25-30 hours per week) 

-Beyond above responsibilities, tasks vary based on the operational needs of the camp 

 

Job Requirements 

-Must be a student currently enrolled in a university or college program 

-Experience in responding to conduct, distress, or crisis situations with youth aged 13-18 

-Be able to work cooperatively with your coworkers as one team 

-Be able to work independently and take initiative as needed 

-Be able to enforce rules 

-High punctuality, maturity, and reliability 

-High interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain approachable and calming student interactions 

-Knowledge in and experience of applying principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion to work with a highly diverse staff team and highly diverse student population 

-Be able to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in high stress situations 

-Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude around students and visiting chaperones 

-A Standard Police check, completed within 18 months prior to the contract start date, is required for all hired candidates before employment begins. The contract is conditional on a satisfactory police criminal record check.  

 

Qualities/Assets 

-Fluency in languages such as Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Mandarin, or Turkish 

-Experience working in an overnight summer camp setting 

-Experience working with youth and/or adult students 

-Experience working in an ESL environment 

-Familiarity with neighbouring UofT area: pharmacies, hospitals, etc.

-Bilingualism or multilingualism 

-Self-motivated 

-Problem solving skills 

-Detail-oriented and organized 

-Interpersonal, management, and leadership skills
