On behalf of our Pre-University Program, we proudly present to you the hard work from students and instructors in the Global Citizenship Program: Climate for Session 1, July 2023 & Session 2, August 2023.
Through the academic side of this 3-week International Summer Academy program at New College, our students formed groups, chose a specific area of Canada or the world, and focused research on an aspect of climate change that a) showcases the social/economic/cultural and/or historical context of the region, b) makes local and global connection to its current situation, and c) gives informed, reasonable recommendations towards addressing it. As a formative course project, groups produced three components to demonstrate their research:
- A podcast episode – this is interview that involves a Q&A between groups and their instructors concerning the regional context (a) that has led to the problems.
- A debrief document – this is the written component to the project, which gives the audience essential information like terminology and statistics for (a), that anyone will need to feel educated when hearing group talk and/or podcast episode.
- A group talk – this is where with visuals, each group member explains part of the climate change aspect to a non-specialist audience in order to inspire them to take action in their communities (b & c).
Please enjoy exploring these three components for the variety of topic areas below!
