Academic qualifications for the IFP are identical to those for regular admission to the University of Toronto. The only difference is that the English proficiency requirements are lower than those for direct admission.
Candidates accepted into the International Foundation Program become University of Toronto undergraduate students. However, in order to proceed further in undergraduate studies, they must successfully complete the IFP, including the degree credit-course; the discipline-specific course; and the language and academic development courses. Throughout the IFP, continual assessment raises student awareness of their standing and provides opportunities to improve their performance. Those who do not successfully complete all courses will have their offers withdrawn.
The IFP is only available to international students currently graduating from high school. Students who have previously attended any post-secondary institution are not eligible for the program.
Typical IFP Student Profile:

- Is graduating from a high school in a non-English speaking country
- Has demonstrated superior academic performance at the high school level
- Meets U of T’s academic admissions requirements
- Does NOT meet U of T’s English language requirement
