IFP Students Are Conditionally Accepted to the University of Toronto

Academic qualifications for the IFP are identical to those for regular admission to the University of Toronto. The only difference is that the English proficiency requirements are lower than those for direct admission.

Candidates accepted into the International Foundation Program become University of Toronto undergraduate students. However, in order to proceed further in undergraduate studies, they must successfully complete the IFP, including the degree credit-course; the discipline-specific course; and the language and academic development courses. Throughout the IFP, continual assessment raises student awareness of their standing and provides opportunities to improve their performance. Those who do not successfully complete all courses will have their offers withdrawn.

The IFP is only available to international students currently graduating from high school. Students who have previously attended any post-secondary institution are not eligible for the program.

Typical IFP Student Profile:

  • Would like to attend the University of Toronto
  • Is graduating from a high school in a non-English speaking country
  • Has demonstrated superior academic performance at the high school level
  • Meets U of T’s academic admissions requirements
  • Does NOT meet U of T’s English language requirement

Academic Requirements

Students applying to the University of Toronto should have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement in high school.

In order to be eligible for admission, students must complete prerequisite courses at the senior level.

Please refer to the Program Finder to see all possible application choices. Prerequisite courses will be included in the admission average. The University of Toronto reserves the right to give preference to students whose marks are the result of a single attempt at each course.

For country-specific details on academic requirements as well as the most up-to-date admissions criteria, please visit the Admissions website.

Important Note:

Applicants to the Faculty of Arts & Science, Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, & Design, and the Faculty of Music will be considered for the Fall/Winter IFP only. Those who wish to be considered for direct admission must apply separately on the OUAC website.
